Kaiser Night

In October 2016, USC AMCP’s 13th Annual Kaiser Networking Night was held off-campus at Luminarias Restaurant in Monterey Park. More than 100 students were in attendance to meet the 35 professionals from various fields within Kaiser Permanente. Kaiser Night continues to be a unique networking opportunity, especially for those who are interested in learning more about the managed care organization and the different ways in which managed care affects the different fields of pharmacy.

Pre-pharmacy Managed Care Program (PMCP)

The Pre-Pharmacy Managed Care Program introduces pre-pharmacy students from different universities to managed care pharmacy as well as what it is like to be a pharmacy student at USC. AMCP members are given the opportunity to join school visits as part of a student panel so that they can offer advice and answer questions from pre-pharmacy students. During the Mock Interview, pre-pharmacy students from all over Southern California converged at USC’s Health Science Campus to learn how to prepare for and interview at different pharmacy schools. They were given the opportunity to review

their resumes as well as get hands on practice answering questions with current students.

Pharmacy & Therapeutics Competition

USC has a proud history of success on the national level with AMCP’s Annual P&T Competition. Teams of four are asked to evaluate a medication and make a recommendation on whether or not it should be covered on a formulary. This requires countless hours researching the medication itself as well as the medication’s competitors so that all the evidence can be presented. The team representing USC has placed in the top 3 in five times in the last seven years.

Building Bridges

USC’s AMCP chapter, in conjunction with the Student Industry Association (SIA), held the 14th Annual Building Bridges event in April 2017. It is one of the largest networking opportunities at the USC School of Pharmacy, and continues to grow to include students from other pharmacy programs as well as undergraduate programs including University of the Pacific, Western University, Loma Linda, UCSD, UCI, and USC. An estimated 60 professionals from both industry and managed care are usually in attendance.
